Welcome to the website of The Bettie R. May Foundation for Small Cell Lung Cancer! More than 40 years after President Nixon declared war on cancer, lung cancer remains the number one cancer killer. This year an estimated 213, 380 new cases of lung cancer will be diagnosed and 47% of new lung cancer cases will be women. Many non-smokers are being diagnosed with lung cancer at an alarming rate. Over three million women have died from lung cancer over the last 30 years. Yet, little has changed. At this rate, it will take centuries, if ever, to discover a cure. In the meantime, many people will lose their lives because most people with lung cancer die. The five-year survival rate is a dismal 15%, an increase of only 3% over the last 30 years. Nothing will change if we don't make it change. Without adequate research funding things will remain the same or only get worse. I need your help to fight this war and win. Your decision will make the difference in the lives of others both today and in the future. I am calling upon you to join me in this crusade that I am calling the "Magnificent 100"...100+ friends united against lung cancer. You can start helping by donating your time or talent to the Bettie R. May Foundation for Small Cell Lung Cancer! Please contact us at 248.496.9145 (voice) or info@brmay.org (email).
